This period mews building (a Protected Structure) is located at the rear of a Georgian townhouse which had been a family home for decades, and was in completely derelict condition. The owners wanted to make a townhouse attractive to high-end tenants, which would also suit themselves as a city-base in years to come, while maximising the potential for the site.
The elegantly composed classical garden façade addressing the main Georgian house was structurally stabilised and restored to best conservation practice, with 2 small windows formed in existing niche recesses for day-lighting to bedrooms, A new 2-storey dwelling was built within the restored building fabric, with a single-storey flat-roofed addition forming a 3rd bedroom/ study concealed behind the stone wall to the mews lane. Custom-made sliding hardwood doors open up the ground floor spaces to a wonderful private south-facing courtyard garden
